Scripture's New Moon Principles

Will the Real "New Moon" Please Stand Up!

. . . for whatever makes manifest, is light.

uring the last week of December 2011, the story circled the globe regarding the religious conflict created by moving the International Dateline (IDL) to the east of the Samoan Islands. While the conflict remains mostly among the local Seventh-day Adventists of the islands, its controversy and debate is being felt worldwide, as sympathizers continue to take up the torch to reconcile the irreconcilable. The moving of the IDL caused the Samoan people to go to bed on Thursday night Dec. 29, 2011 and wake up the next morning on Saturday, Dec. 31st, completely skipping Friday, Dec. 30. In this way they lost both a monthly calendar date and the sixth day of their "unbroken" weekly seven day cycle.

The conflict arises as the deeply religious local S.D.A. church members of the islands strive to be consistent with their beliefs. This belief being that their seventh-day Sabbath is to consistently fall on both a "Saturday" and the seventh day of an unbroken weekly cycle, since creation. It is in moving the dateline from one side of Samoa to the other, that "Saturday" was severed from the seventh-day of the week cycle. This creates a most unusual dilemma as each person must make a choice between two problematic options, or not settle until they learn the real truth. So the question remains, should the Samoan S.D.A.'s keep as a holy Sabbath, the new "Saturday" on the new seventh day, or should they keep "Sunday," with the local Sunday keepers, which is now in harmony with the old seventh day of the continuous weekly cycle? Our heavenly Father in His wisdom is using this timely event to bring earth's attention to the subject of "time."

Samoan IDL issues can be found here

What is the common denominator between "Saturday," the "continuous weekly cycle," and "the IDL?" Since what our Creator makes He never alters or changes, how is it that the IDL can be moved? Is the Pacific Ocean IDL recognized by our Creator? Did our Creator identify a need for an International Dateline? If so, where is that line on earth? Where is that line in the heavens? What was it the Creator ordained to rightly divide His months and days? These questions and more will be answered as details are shed on the Creator's divinely ordained "true" New Moon.

Just as an archeologist discovers grand truths from hundreds of tiny clues, so too, are the results of those who are seeking truth in Scripture as for buried treasure. It is only by digging deep in the mines of truth, that Yahuwah's true principles of "time" can be found and reinstated. The purpose of this article is to bring all the Scriptural principles together in one place to identify the true New Moon. Which lunar phase is the true New Moon, the Creator's signal for each new month, and the demarcation of days on this round world?

Will the real "New Moon" please stand up!

If the principles do not popup when you hover over, open in this window

Like any other foundational doctrine, the principles of the true New Moon lunar phase must be established on more than one individual Scripture verse, guideline, rule, regulation, parameter, policy, theory, opinion, view, belief, or presumption, to name a few. The true New Moon must meet all the parameters identified in Scripture as a comprehensive whole.

Principle #1: Why does the first chapter of the Bible clarify that the moon is to "rule by night?"

Then Elohiym made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the [by] night. Genesis 1:16 NKJV

With a "thus saith Elohiym" the Creator ordained the sun to rule the day, during daylight, and the moon to "rule the night," during night time. Therefore, the sun is to rule during the daylight only, a twelve hour period of radiant light, while the moon is to rule following sunset (between sunset and sunrise). Although, the moon is seen nearly every day during the daylight hours, we have it on good authority that it never rules while the sun is shining, but is a secondary light. In contrast, the sun is never seen during the night, the period set apart in which the moon is to rule.

The moon and stars to rule by night, for His mercy endures forever. Psalms 136:9 NKJV

Psalms 136 specifically defines that the moon and stars rule during the night only. As a result, the moon cannot and does not rule during the day, ever. This one Scripture alone would disqualify the conjunction lunar phase as a beacon for the months, feast days and seventh-day Sabbaths. So, if the moon cannot rule by day, even though it is visible by day for half the month, then its power to rule is only when it is night.

Thus says Yahuwah, who gives the sun for a light by day, the ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night . . . Jeremiah 31:35 NKJV

Each light that legislates time does so when it is visible. To be consistent, the same principle must apply to each of the designated "lights" in the heavens- when they rule, they must each be visible lights (Genesis 1:14).

The New Moon lunar phase is the most prominent of all lunar phases:
  1. It is referred to over 200 times from Genesis to Revelation.

  2. It is the only lunar phase in which regularly scheduled sacrifices were offered.

  3. Indeed, there was more than twice the number of sacrifices offered on New Moon days than were offered on the seventh-day Sabbaths (Numbers 28:9-11).

  4. It is the lunar phase ordained by the Creator to illustrate the commencement of each new month of 29 or 30 calendar dates; each lunisolar new year; each of the Creator's Lunar International Datelines (CLID); and set the framework and count for four cycling lunar weeks and seventh-day Sabbaths as defined in (Exodus 12:1-8; Isaiah 66:23).

  5. With a "thus saith Yahuwah," the people of the land are to worship at the entrance at the east gate of the Sanctuary on the Sabbaths and the New Moons (Ezekiel 46:1-3). From the mouth of our Creator, New Moon day is a worship day along with the Sabbath.
Since the moon was ordained to "rule by night," might this same principle also apply to the most prominent of all lunar phases, referred to in Scripture as the New Moon? Indeed, it appears to be the very reason for which the moon is declared to rule at night, that no mistake might be made to follow after the world in believing the dark lunar phase is the real New Moon. It is only as this unique lunar phase is witnessed in the "night sky" that it announces in advance the next day as "New Moon Day," commencing at sunrise.

What does it mean for the sun, moon or stars to rule?
For the sun, moon or stars to "rule" they must be present and potentially visible, just as a ruler who sits on his throne. The term "rule" also means to legislate. The sun, moon and stars were given authority by the Creator to legislate "time" upon the earth. These are the "principles that rule in the heavens."

Since the most important lunar phase is the New Moon, to be consistent with the above principle, would it not logically be of the light? So, the true New Moon must "rule by night," when it is visible, as a prerequisite to legislating time. Anything short of this "rule by night" protocol is deficient of the first Biblical rule that qualifies a lunar phase to "legislate time."

Principle #2: How might Scripture's contrast of the principles of "light" and "darkness" apply to the New Moon?

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17 NKJV

The signature of the Creator is "light" as opposed to "darkness." He alone is the Father of lights. Not another soul including Lucifer could create nor counterfeit the heavenly "lights." According to Ephesians, "light" is the only thing that can make something manifest. Light reveals, while darkness conceals. At best, all Satan can do is cause people to "think" time is according an arbitrary man-made wall calendar, or that a dark moon reveals Yah's times. All the while, both methods conceal the truth, and is an oxymoron.

The very first thing Yahuwah did during the creation week was to speak forth "light" out of the darkness. Then, during each "daylight" of creation, He created all that came to be. Absolutely nothing was created during the dark of night.

Throughout Scripture Yahuwah has used the contrasting principles of light and dark to teach His spiritual truths. "Darkness" was to symbolically represent infidelity, spiritual blindness and evil, while "light" was to represent "truth", spiritual understanding, and righteousness. Yahushua used these principles over and over throughout His ministry.

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 1Thessalonians 5:5-6

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth, cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. John 3:20

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who had called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1Peter 2:9

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:14-18

Of paramount importance, notice that Yahuwah was making a distinction between darkness and light by separating them.
  • The "lights" are plural.

  • There are four purposes of the sun, moon and stars as they work in orchestration according to Genesis 1:14-18:

            1) To divide the day from the night.
            2) For "time" - signs, seasons, days and years.
            3) Let them be for "lights" upon earth.
            4) To rule either by day or by night.

  • Let them be for signs: In an orchestrated process, the sun and moon work together for signs (weeks/Sabbaths) and seasons (lunar appointed assemblies) specifically. This would not hold true for the New Moon if it were the dark phase or conjunction. This is because if you have a dark moon it is because the sun is not shining on it, as seen from our vantage point. Nothing is shining or working together, but all would be invisible in the darkness.

  • Pure light is the signature of Yahuwah and His creative power, and not darkness, or any mix of darkness with light. Therefore, something as important as the New Moon to beacon each new month with four holy seventh-day Sabbaths, each New Year, and each Lunar International Dateline, must itself be of the "light," a visible beacon upon earth. Didn’t the Creator give mankind eyes to see, and observe the things that He made specifically for mankind?

But all things that are exposed [revealed] are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest, is light. Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead [spiritual death], and Christ will give you light [truth]." See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming [rescue from loss] the time [set time or season], because the days are evil [degenerated from the original]. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:13-17 NKJV Inserts from Strong's Bible Dictionary

In contrast to the verse above, can the darkest of all lunar phases, the conjunction, qualify for this task of redeeming time? Can darkness "beacon" or make manifest anything? The only thing darkness can do is reveal an absence of light. Light is the substance the Creator consistently uses for revealing truth and exposing error.

Principle #3: For the lights to "rule" in the heavens, must they be "visible?"

It shall be established forever like the moon, even like the faithful witness in the sky." Psalms 89:37 NKJV

Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Revelation 12:1-2 NKJV

As mentioned in Principle #1, just as the sun rules by day, and the stars rule by night when they are "visible lights" so too, the moon rules by night only when it is a "visible light." The same principle applies to each of the designated "lights" in the heavens- to be consistent, when they rule, they must each be visible lights.

A faithful witness is revealing and never concealing. In like manner, light is visible and revealing, while darkness is unrevealing and concealing.

John's description of Revelation 12:1 is of the woman clothed with the visible sun, moon and stars. How do we know they were each visible? Because it states, "a great sign appeared." Could this reference to the moon be any old lunar phase? Not likely, as each of the lights mentioned are a repeat of Genesis 1:14-18, defined as lights that legislate time. The specific lunar phase that beacons time is the New Moon as it visibly rules by night. Thus it seems reasonable that the lunar phase John saw was nothing short of the visible crescent New Moon under her feet. If it were the dark conjunction lunar phase, how might John have known it was there if it was not visible?

In order for the moon to beacon the commencement of each new month, it must be plainly visible in the night sky. The New crescent moon must be both "new" (following a period of non-visibility) and of the "light" at night. It is only as this first lunar phase is visibly seen from earth that the witness can declare and fix both the time and location of the Creator's Lunar International Dateline. An exact location for a Dateline would be difficult to define with if one follows a dark conjunction lunar phase, with out the use of computer technology.

Quarter Phases and the Sabbath
The moon declares with its quarter phases only the approximate weeks for each month. However, these quarter phases can NEVER be an accurate measure for weeks and Sabbaths, because neither 29 nor 30 days can be divided by either 4 weeks or 7 days. Those who teach this are not able to demonstrate that it actually works for all four Sabbaths consistently each lunar month. As a result, if this belief does not work for even one week of the month, or one month of the year, then it cannot be a principle of truth. The teachings of Philo are not Scripture and indeed are in conflict with the Creator's principles of "light." While this theory sounds good on the surface, it is only surface deep. We shall be judged only by those things written in Scripture.

This chart demonstrates in most cases quarter phases do not line up,
thus do not constitute seventh-day Sabbaths

When the hands of a clock are straight up, pointing to the 12, it is declared to be the end of a full twelve hour period, and equally acknowledged that a "new" twelve hour rotation has not yet begun. However, when both the hour and minute hand points to the 1, the first visible number, it is declared to be the first hour of a "new" twelve hour period.

Likewise, when the dark conjunction lunar phase is directly between the sun and the earth, a 29.5 monthly rotation of the moon is declared to have completed a full lunation, and equally acknowledged that a "new month" has not yet begun. In contrast, when the "light" of the First Visible Crescent is witnessed upon earth at sunset (sunset is the time marker for recognizing each waxing lunar phase), it is declared to be the first lunar phase of the "new month." It also signals the first "full" day of the new month will commence at sunrise the next morning.

There are those who believe that just because the moment after true conjunction (the dark lunar phase), the moon begins to wax with more light, it can be considered a waxing phase. This cannot be so. Just as on a clock, anything short of a whole period between the 12:00 and 1:00 is not a complete hour, so too the period between true conjunction and the first visible crescent is not a recognized lunar phase. Each waxing phase is signaled at precisely sunset. Each waning phase is signaled at precisely sunrise. The conjunction lunar phase fits into the category of being signaled at sunrise and as a result is a waning lunar phase, the last lunar phase of the month.

Numbering the Days and the Sabbaths
Remarkably, we are counseled to count or number each day, with New Moon being day one, the day following the visual aid of the First Visible Crescent. The counted Sabbaths will then always fall on the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th, always.

While the numbers in the illustration below are in reverse to a manmade clock, notice that the number 30 is lined up between the sun and the earth. This illustrates that the "dark conjunction lunar phase" is at the end of the month of the lunation and not at the beginning. The 1 is off center to the left, and marks the location of the FVC as seen from earth following sunset. This lunar sliver in the sky announces the following day to be New Moon day.

In both 1 Chronicles and Jeremiah below, the specific focus is given to numbering. And in 1 Chronicles, Yahuwah commands that His people are to number the days of the month and the Sabbaths by the same lunar measure. Notice how each of these word studies reveal the time system portrayed in the image above of the moons orbit around the earth with the numbered divisions of days.

30 Take a stand to establish sunrise as the break [beginning] of day, by extending hands in thanksgiving and praise to Yahuwah; then do likewise at sunset.

31 Everyone exalt, and restore Yahuwah's Sabbaths, New Moons and their lunar months, and yearly fixed feast times. Number them by the ordained measure of the elliptical and perpetual [lunar] face that turns, forming time as was purposed by Yahuwah.

32 Guard and protect this sign marker with a posted watch at the place of assembly, as convened for signs, as a token of evidence. Watch over this holy and dedicated thing as a charge and service by the sons of Aaron, and the others who minister unto the sanctuary of Yahuwah. 1 Chronicles 23:30-32

Principle #4: Is the New Moon a "waxing" or a "waning" lunar phase?

All waxing phases occur during the first half of the month and are distinguished in the night sky after sunset. In contrast, all waning lunar phases occur during the last half of the month and are distinguished at sunrise. The very first lunar phase to come into view again following the waning, diminishing phases, is the First Visible Crescent. It is positioned low on the western horizon shortly after sunset. While the conjunction lunar phase can not be visibly distinguished it is only because it has less light than the previous night. This is why it qualifies as a waning lunar phase and not a waxing, "new" lunar phase. New is only "new" as it contrasts with old, a thing that has come to its end.

There is not just one, but two reasons why the "dark conjunction" lunar phase is not only dark but also never visible. The first reason is phase related, as the sun only shines on the moon's back side as viewed from earth, in this way making the visible side dark. The second reason the "conjunction" phase is never visible is position related. This dark lunar phase cannot be seen because it comes between the earth and the sun at sunrise, similar to an eclipse. Both the phase and its position work together to insure consistency, thus it will never be visible. This is because each lunar phase is also bound by physical laws to its position in the heavens. Outside of latitude variation, each lunar phase consistently appears in its approximate longitude position every 29 or 30 days.

The pathway of the righteous is illuminated by the light of the sun, moon and stars, brilliantly waxing in light while steadfastly determining each day. The pathway of the wicked is darkness, and they do not discern by what means they stumble. Proverbs 4:18-19 (Hebrew Interlinear word study)

Qualifying or disqualifying the "dark conjunction" phase as New Moon
If the ancient Hebrews were to look for the dark "conjunction" phase as if it were the "New Moon", they would have had to go out at sunrise and face the east looking for the moon, yet it would never be visible. The act of facing the sun at sunrise was considered an abomination to Yahuwah. This could have too easily been confused with sun worship. This is exactly opposite of what the Lord Yahuwah taught through the ceremonies of the Sanctuary. At sunrise, the priests were to face due west toward the Holy of Holies. Ezekiel 8:15-16 cites the greatest abomination to Yahuwah is that of sun worship, facing the east at sunrise. What confusion might arise if they were also looking over their shoulders to get a glimpse of an invisible dark conjunction lunar phase? Might it have been for this very reason, as a principle of truth, that the dark conjunction was never to be considered the "New Moon." Might this be a valuable Scriptural clue?

Blow the trumpet at the time of the New Moon . . . Psalms 81:3 NKJV

Historically, new moon spotters in Israel watched for the thin crescent to establish the beginning of each month. Once seen they reported their sighting to the calendar court authorities of the Sanhedrin. Note what one authority says, "Originally, the New Moon was not fixed by astronomical calculation, but was solemnly proclaimed after witnesses had testified to the reappearance of the crescent of the moon," Encyclopaedia Judaica, Vol. 12, p. 1039.

In Yahuwah's mercy, the New Moon was to be announced by the trumpet blast at the sighting of the First Visible Crescent, on the evening prior to New Moon Day. This was for the purpose of allowing the people time to prepare for this Holy day of worship after sunset, when it was dark. Because half of the months of any given year were 29 days in length, His people would have been just observing the seventh-day Sabbath during a 29th day month, prior to the setting sun. It was at that moment that the New Moon was announced by the blowing of the trumpet. The dark hours between the seventh-day Sabbath and the New Moon Day gave His people time to prepare for it. Remember, Yahuwah's ordained Sabbath and New Moon Days were only 12 hour periods which were observed from the sunrise to sunset. Refer to article, "Three Months in a Row".

The entire purpose of the trumpet blast was to announce the coming Holy day, allowing time for the people to prepare for it, both physically and spiritually.

The "waxing" lunar phases occur during the first half of the month. This means that each night following sunset, the lunar phases display "more light" of the sun than the previous night. Every 24 hour period of a lunar month the moon is on the average 45 minutes short of its previous position in the night or morning sky. The waning phases which occur during the second half of the lunar month display "less light" of the sun than the previous day. With this in mind, here is a question for you.

Question 1:

Answer:

Using the lunar illustrations below, does the dark conjunction lunar phase receive more light than the previous 24 hours, as in the waxing phases, or does it receive less light, as in the waning phases?

It displays less light as in the waning phases.  According to the definition of the New Moon, it is characterized as a building, or waxing phase.

This is so very important to understand because the dark conjunction phase has all the markings of a waning (old) phase. Therefore, it is self-evident that it belongs to the end of the second half of the old month. It cannot be both part of the old month and part of the new month simultaneously.

Principle #5: What implications do the waxing and waning phases have on "new" vs. "old?"
Then Jonathan said to David, "tomorrow is the New Moon; and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty." 1 Samuel 20:18 NKJV

And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me," says the LORD. Isaiah 66:23 NKJV

The emphasis here is on what constitutes "new" vs. "old." Jonathan proclaims that tomorrow the moon will be new contrasting with today being old. Isaiah states that in the future, the Sabbath will be reckoned from the New Moon, from one lunar month to another, in contrast to any other lunar phase. Even if this was intended as a general statement to be from lunar month to lunar month, by default it is always assumed that it means from the beginning of each month to the beginning of the next month. In contrast, it is unlikely that this verse would mean from the end of one lunar month to the end of the next lunar month, from one old lunar phase to another.

The FVC lunar phase is dubbed with the term "new" for the very reason the previous lunar phase was dark and not visible. It can only be "new" because the previous moon and month ended in the obscurity of darkness as if its own light had gone out. During the entire month, all the lunar phases reflect a percentage of the suns light except for the last phase. This conjunction phase is the only lunar phase that is completely dark and absent of any reflecting rays from the sun from earths perspective. It is not until the next night that there would be any possibility of seeing the light of a crescent moon, coming out of it's darkness into the marvelous light.

Since the dark conjunction lunar phase fits the criteria of the "waning" category it cannot be a "new" (waxing) refreshed or rebuilding lunar phase that signals a new month has begun. This darkest phase of the month is forever associated with the waning phases as they, day by day, receive less and less light of the sun until it is completely void of light. By definition, the dark conjunction phase is a waning phase and always part of the second half of the old lunar month. Never can it be any portion of the waxing (growing in light) phase of a "new" refreshed and rebuilding month, as these alone are receiving more and more light with each phase than the preceding phase until the moon is full.

Many who keep the dark conjunction day as New Moon day, claim the First Visible Crescent witnessed at sunset following it, beacons with its light that the New Moon has already occurred. So, by default a lunar phase that follows the actual event declares the new month has begun since the dark phase cannot signal anything. Rather, Scripture declares, ". . . for whatever makes manifest, is light" (Ephesians 5:13). It is to be a light in the sky signaling in advance that the New Moon day begins the following morning at sunrise.

The Hebrew words Chodesh and Chadash
There are many good folks who have accepted the "dark conjunction" lunar phase as the true New Moon, in part, because they have found no description in Scripture defining it as waxing or waning, rebuilding, or new in contrast to old.

The table below displays the Hebrew word chodesh #2320 as well as the declared root word chadash #2318. Notice that both Hebrew words are identical. This very important word has been conveniently divided into two definitions, one definition gives the noun while the other gives the verb. Yet, together they define the whole truth that the true "New Moon" is "new" in contrast to "old." It is defined as "rebuilding," which can mean nothing other than it is "waxing." Therefore, all descriptive aspects of the "New Moon" are built directly into the word itself.

This clever technique has been used many, many times by all the Lexicons. Perhaps this is even at the request by the translators, for the express purpose of hiding or camouflaging some vital points in relation to time that some might discover to be clues to Yahuwah's true time keeping.

Disqualifying the "full moon" as the New Moon

Question 2:

Answer :

Using the illustrations above, does the full moon lunar phase receive more light than the previous night, as in the waxing phases, or does it receive less light than the previous night, as in the waning phases?

It receives more light.  So it meets this one criterion.

Questions 3:

Answer :

The definition above specifies that the New Moon is to be both a "new"and a "building" lunar phase. Does the full moon qualify as both a "new"and a "building"lunar phase? Remember, for something to be new, it must be contrasted with what is old.

No, because the full moon is the last, or the end of the waxing phases rather than being the beginning of the building or repairing waxing lunar phases.  In this way it does not qualify as "new."The full moon meets only half of the definition criteria, as it displays more light than the previous night, but because it is not "new"it is not a New Moon contender.

Since each of the other options have been discussed, a few words can be spent on the subject of the last visible crescent, as there are some who believe this to be the true New Moon.

Disqualifying the "last visible crescent" as New Moon

Question 4:

Answer:

Using the illustrations above, and the Hebrew word definitions, is the last visible crescent either a "new"or a "building"lunar phase?

No, it is neither. Therefore, it is impossible for this lunar phase to be the true New Moon.

Qualifying the "first visible crescent" as the true New Moon

Question 5:

Answer:

Using the same illustrations, and the Hebrew word definitions, is the first visible crescent both a "new" and a "building" lunar phase?

The answer is yes. The first visible crescent lunar phase is "new"because the moon had become dark, and when first seen after that it is referred to as "new."It is a "building"and waxing phase because not only is there more light visible than the previous night, but it is also followed by a building lunar phase.

Make no mistake, a waxing first visible crescent moon following a non-visible lunar phase has the most apparent markings of the true New Moon according to all the principles cited above. It is the only lunar phase that fits all the criteria, as it is "visible," "new," and a "building/waxing" lunar phase.

Principle #6: Does the First Visible Crescent establish the Creator's Lunar International Dateline (CLID), in both time and location?

A stationary dateline can no more be established in Jerusalem, than a permanent, yet arbitrary dateline can be placed in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This is because the instrument our Creator has ordained to signal His new months and demarcate each calendar date from the next, is His perpetually revolving crescent New Moon in the sky. Each month the Creator's Lunar International Dateline (CLID) comes to us in a "new" location. In other words, the CLID is mobile, because both the earth and the moon are mobile. The CLID remains in one marked location for a full lunar month, after which time a "new" crescent New Moon is witnessed in an altogether different location.

Thus says Yahuwah, who gives the sun for a light by day, the ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night . . . Jeremiah 31:35 NKJV

The "light by night" is always a visible manifestation, and a necessity for getting a visual bearing for locating each months CLID.

On a round world, there are three time units that must have a defined starting and ending point, a measuring line for the globe of the earth. These are the civil calendar date, the Biblical lunar month, and the Biblical lunar solar year, according to the Creator's calendar. Recognizing this fact, while ignoring the celestial bodies' time signals, mankind has arbitrarily placed a permanent International Dateline out in the Pacific Ocean. Any mention of days, months or years automatically presumes a count to the next day, month or year, whether they are man-made or time units ordained by the Father of "lights." However, many are still not aware that the "months" spoken of in Scripture are always "lunar months." Unique to lunar months is the visual aide of its changing phases, demarcating each day from the next, but also each lunar month and lunar solar year from the next. In this way the true "New Moon" or FVC establishes the Creator's Lunar International Dateline (CLID).

The lunar month begins each 29.5 day lunation with the sighting of the true "New Moon" lunar phase. The New Moon is a beacon in the heavens that occurs each new lunar month in a new location upon earth. It marks and fixes both the location and time commencement of the new month to the CLID, an imaginary line defining days and months.

Just as the sun marks an imaginary line from the North to the South Pole as the earth rotates to begin each new day, so too the sighting of the First Visible Crescent New Moon marks the CLID. Whether one is far north or south, beyond the line of sight of the crescent, is inconsequential, as an imaginary line is also drawn from pole to pole. This allows the entire world to be in harmony with the definitive lunar phases, with one phase followed by the next. In this way the earth revolves only once for each lunar phase, from the first visible crescent through to the darkness of the final phase. Therefore, the entire world will experience the First Visible Crescent during a single revolution of the earth, followed the next morning at sunrise with the celebration of New Moon day.

As a result of each lunar phase being unique from the previous, there can never be two day New Moons as some have come to believe. This view has come directly from the Reverse Interlinear English translation of 1 Samuel 20: 5-34, where key words have been taken out of their intended order and others mistranslated. As a result, the verse appears to state that there is a second New Moon day, when it actually states the second banquet meal occurs on New Moon day, the first day of the month. Also, the Hebrew text supports a FVC New Moon lunar phase and not a dark conjunction phase. There is no evidence of a second or third witness to the concept of a two day New Moon theory, so when the translation errors of 1 Samuel 20:5-34 are exposed there is no other support for this view. Refer to word study, "Tomorrow is the New Moon."

Illustrated below, is the fact that for most lunar months each year, each lunar day will be bisected by two Gregorian dates. See illustration below.

The New Moon sets the dateline for a full lunar month, from one New Moon to another.

And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me," says the LORD. Isaiah 66:23 NKJV

International Date Line

As a result of the above illustration, each new lunar month and its demarcation of days is regularly signaled and established upon the bases of the First Visible Crescent New Moon. Together with the sun, it alone is the ordained tool that fixes the time and place of the Creator's Lunar International Dateline.

Principle #7: What astronomical sign marks the first day of the New Year in spring?

An inductive Bible study of the New Moon and all its inherent elements includes - ruling by night, being a visible light, and a new waxing phase. But it also includes the annual distinct bowl shape when it appears in the western sky soon after the vernal equinox. This occurs because it is the beginning of spring when the days and the nights are equal. At this precise time when the crescent became a perfect bowl it was spring when Yahuwah spoke to Moses in Exodus 12:1-2, stating, "this New Moon belongs to the beginning of the lunar months." Moses could look up and see the crescent bowl as a distinguishing sign.

Commandingly spoke, Yahuwah to Moses and to Aaron while in the land of Egypt, declaring: "New moon, this one, belongs to the beginning of the lunar months. It is first in place, time and rank, as in old time past, which accordingly, lunar months are the divisions or measure of time for a year. Declare and teach this to all the congregation of Israel saying, 'on the tenth of this lunar month do as follows: Reserve accordingly every man a lamb for each household of the father, a lamb for each house.'" Interlinear word study Exodus 12:1-3

From one New Moon to another throughout the year, the avid watcher of the heavens will witness changes in the tilt of the first visible crescent. Its orientation can vary anywhere from vertical, to a 45 degree angle, or even completely horizontal. When in this horizontal position the moon is setting directly at the latitude of sunset, causing it to have the appearance of a bowl. This occurs at the first visible crescent just after the vernal equinox in spring, declaring the following day to be the first day of the first month of the New Year. Two months prior to the spring New Year the first visible crescent is nearing a horizontal position, but is not perfectly horizontal until the first day of the New Year. Each lunar month following this occurrence, the New Moon will become more vertical at sunset.

Genesis defines that the "lights in the heavens," the sun, moon and stars are to consistently demarcate signs, seasons [lunar appointed times], days and years. While it is true that the first fruits of the barley harvest must be available for Abib 16, the Feast of First Fruits, this is secondary to the signs given by the lights in the heavens.

Then God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years . . . Genesis 1:14-15 NKJV

It shall be established forever like the moon, even like the faithful witness in the sky." Ps 89:37 NKJV

In the verse below, the mere fact that Yahuwah declared this particular "New Moon" was to be the beginning of the new lunisolar year and the lunar month of Abib, of necessity it would have had a visual astronomical sign in the heavens. There may be more than one sign discovered in the heavens, but at least we know the moon's unique bowl shape is one.

Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, "This [new moon] month shall be your beginning of [lunar] months; it shall be the first [lunar] month of the [lunisolar] year to you. Exodus12:1-2 NKJV [Inserts by Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon and Strong's Bible Dictionary]

Principle #8: Might the "harvest sickle" spoken of in Scripture, be represented by the First Visible Crescent?

While the spring harvest feasts were fulfilled to the very letter in the Saviour's day, they will, along with the fall feasts, have their final fulfillment at the end of time. Yahuwah's Holy Feast days are truly prophetic of the threefold, great and final harvest of the earth.

Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Joel 3:12-13 NKJV

But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come. Mark 4:29 NKJV

Is it possible that the first fruits harvest of the Passover week, will be the sealing of the 144,000 who will be the first to wake to the knowledge of the bridegroom's coming?

Might it be that the second harvest phase represented by Pentecost, will be the sealing of the great multitude that no man can number? Would it be truly possible for concepts of this magnitude to be accepted by so many in so little time, literally a period of seven weeks complete?

You shall count seven weeks for yourself; begin to count the seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the grain. Deuteronomy 16:9 NKJV

Might it be that the third and last harvest of the earth is the final judgment of the unrighteous, the gathering of the tares into bundles to be burned? Is it possible that this represents the closing of probations door forever?

Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, "Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe." So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped. Revelation 14:14-16 NKJV

Then another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, "Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe." So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. Revelation 14:17-20 NKJV

It has been said that the ripening of the harvest will be a National Sunday Law.
  • Could the final battle be waged over the Creator’s entire mountain of time in contrast to Satan’s counterfeit system?

  • Could this battle over the souls of men ultimately be fought over “the principles the rule in the heavens,” i.e., the sun, moon and stars, vs. the calendar hanging on a wall in every home in the world?

  • Might it be discovered that on the Creator’s lunisolar calendar, Saturday does not even exist along with her twin sister, the unbroken cycle of weeks?

  • Surely no one will be untouched by the impact of this great conflict, the battle of Armageddon is indeed over the true Sabbath, Yahuwah’s lunar Sabbath vs. Saturday, Sunday, or any day regularly located on an unbroken cycle of weeks.
The signal that the harvest has begun is when the sickle is put forth. Yahuwah's faithful are waking up and recognizing that the great harvest sickle in the heavens is His crescent New Moon, and that the battle of Armageddon has begun. These are they who discern that during the dark ages Yahuwah's calendar and festivals were lost and forgotten under the rubble of false teachings and counterfeit wall calendars. Now His statutes and true time keeping system are being fully restored to His faithful followers. These are they who recognize for the first time in nearly 1800 years, that it was the moon all along, which had been removed from their understanding of timekeeping.

Scripture declares it is the sickle that separates the tares from the wheat harvest. Might it be the FVC sickle in the sky that separates the faithful from the unfaithful? For it is the crescent New Moon that defines the Creator's years, months, CLID, weeks, and calendar dates, including all His holy Feast days. What more fitting, and visible sign could a loving Saviour use to test His would be faithful children?

Above is an example that the sickle held in the right hand of the reaper is the heaven ordained sign of the true New Moon.

Assuredly, my sickle [first visible crescent] shall be bathed in the light of the revolving celestial bodies and beheld descending upon Edom [seat of paganism] by reason of my people, as a congregated unit, who are appointed to utter destruction by a formal decree. Isaiah 34:5 (Hebrew word study using Strong's Bible Dictionary and Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon)

Isaiah 34:5 Study Here

Only by placing the moon back in its original preordained and honorary role, to rule in orchestration with the sun and stars, is it possible for Yahuwah's people to stand together with Him on Mount Zion, His holy mountain of time. Only then His faithful are in perfect harmony with the algorithms of heaven.

Summary and Final Points:

We believe the First Visible Crescent is the only lunar phase recognized in Scripture as: a light; a visible lunar phase; new vs. old; waxing phase; having a unique bowl shape on New Year's day in spring; exhibiting the unique shape of a harvest sickle.

New Moon Principles:
  1. The Creator ordained the moon to "rule by night" (Genesis 1:16). Therefore, this principle must also apply to the most prominent of all lunar phases, referred in Scripture as the New Moon. It is only as it is witnessed in the "night sky" that it can announce the next day as New Moon Day, commencing at sunrise.

  2. The Creator ordained “lights” as the principles to rule in the heavens.

  3. The Messiah repeatedly defined “truth” to be synonymous with “light.”

  4. The New Moon must be visible," just as the sun is visible for days and stars for nights, when they rule in the heavens.

  5. It must be a “waxing” rebuilding lunar phase, gaining more light than the previous phase. Hebrew word root word of #2320 chodesh is #2318 chadash – to be new; to rebuild; renew.

  6. The New Moon must be “new” after disappearing into darkness and then it comes to us afresh on a round world. Hebrew word root word of #2320 chodesh is #2318 chadash – to be new; to rebuild; renew.

  7. 7. The true New Moon must be the first lunar phase to exhibit itself following the completion of the previous lunar cycle. Just as a clock strikes 12:00 straight up at the completion of its revolution, so too the last lunar phase of the cycle is straight up in “conjunction” with both the sun and moon. When the clock strikes 1:00 it has begun anew cycle. So too, the first lunar phase of the new cycle must follow the “conjunction.” Just as the first hour of the next cycle is not recognized until the hour hand points to the 1, so too the next lunar phase after conjunction is not recognized until the “first visible crescent.”

  8. The New Moon FVC appears in a different location around the globe each lunar month, causing His faithful to be watchful.

  9. We believe the International Dateline was ordained by the Creator to be signaled by the First Visible Crescent New Moon. Its first appearance marks and fixes the longitudinal reference for the Creator’s Lunar International Dateline (CLID). Regardless of where the FVC is spotted the (CLID) becomes an imaginary longitudinal line stretching from the North to the South Pole, defining the division of lunar months, and demarcating each day from the next.

  10. We believe the Creator’s Lunar International Dateline (CLID) is free of human manipulation and the only answer to the world’s need for an imaginary dateline.

  11. From the moment the FVC is witnessed it marks the CLID. There will never be two consecutive days where some folks north or south will have a different Sabbath, unless they are on a different longitudinal line, because the earth spins in one rotation for each day.

  12. From the moment the CLID is established by the witness of the FVC, the civil calendar dates are numbered for each lunar month. Scripture teaches us to “number our days,” counting from New Moon day, as day one. Jeremiah 2:32, 1 Chronicles 23:30-32, Psalms 90:12, Isaiah 66:23.

  13. The New Moon FVC signals three categories of days to occur in their preordained order: New Moon day followed by four weeks complete (made up of six work days and one Sabbath). Each month then refreshes and begins anew according to the Creator’s FVC signal.

  14. 13. The First Visible Crescent works in orchestration with the sun, evidenced by the visible light. From this foundation, together they measure “months,” “weeks,” “days” (calendar dates), and define whether a year will be 12 or 13 lunar months in length. The FVC of each spring is shaped like a bowl defining it as the First day of the First Month.

  15. We believe that the last day harvest of the earth will be reaped by the sickle in the heavens. The First Visible Crescent New Moon will be the instrument that is used by Yahuwah to be the “revealer of the heart of mankind. We believe that this harvest has already begun as the battle lines have been drawn.
What the New Moon Cannot Be:
  1. The New Moon cannot be the “full moon,” as the established criteria declares it must be both “new” and “waxing” (gaining more light). While the full moon is a waxing phase it is not “new” as the definition implies that the previous phase must be old.

  2. It cannot be the “last visible crescent” for the shear reason it is not new or waxing.

  3. The “New” Moon can never be in “conjunction,” because when the moon comes between the sun and the earth it is the last phase of completing a lunar cycle, just as a clock at 12 midnight has just completed 12 hours. Likewise, as a clock does not register the first hour of a new cycle until the hour hand points to 1:00, so too the New Moon lunar phase is not recognized until the FVC is witnessed from earth, demonstrating it has completed the old cycle and has begun anew. It’s not until the moon has moved out of “conjunction” with the sun and earth by a full lunar phase that it is recognized as commencing a new lunation.

  4. 4. The New Moon cannot be the "old" lunar phase, as the "old" phase is not a waxing phase. It cannot be any of the waning phases, as each has less light than the previous phase. It is the attributes of the dark conjunction lunar phase that creates the contrast of the old with the new, as it is the only lunar phased that reflects no light at all, and the very last of the waning phases. This fact alone establishes that the First Visible Crescent is indeed the true New Moon.

  5. The New Moon cannot be a “dark conjunction” lunar phase because it is a “waning” phase, demonstrated by the fact that it receives less light than the previous phase. All waning phases belong to an aging and dwindling lunation

  6. The New Moon cannot signal the Sabbaths to fall on the four quarter phases of the lunar cycle because neither 29 nor 30 days can be divided equally by 4 weeks or by 7 days. Those who teach this are not able to demonstrate that it actually works for all four Sabbaths consistently each lunar month. If it does not work for even one Sabbath a year or one Sabbath a month, it simply is not a principle of truth. This is a teaching of Philo and not Scripture.
Opening Questions Answered:
  • What is the common denominator between “Saturday,” the “continuous weekly cycle” and “the IDL?” Each are fabricated by man, evidenced by the fact that they can be arbitrarily changed at a moments notice. Each of these time identifiers are in striking opposition to the Creator's principles that rule in the heavens (Genesis 1:14).

  • Since what our Creator makes He never alters or changes, how is it that the IDL can be moved? As in the answer above, all things that mankind makes, he can alter, but Yahuwah changes not.

  • Is the Pacific Ocean IDL recognized by our Creator? No.

  • Did our Creator recognize a need for an International Dateline? Yes.

  • Where is the Creator's IDL on earth? An imaginary line from the North to the South Pole is located on earth as it is signaled according to the first sighting of the FVC New Moon. Because the moon is mobile, the Creator's Lunar International Dateline is mobile, as it moves to a new location on earth each lunar month. This divine phenomenon will beckon Yahuwah's faithful to be watchful.

  • Where is that line in the heavens? It is the FVC New Moon in the heavens that locates the Creator’s Lunar International Dateline on earth.

  • What was it the Creator ordained to rightly divide His months and days? He ordained the “visible light” of His First Visible Crescent New Moon.

        Who are Yahuwah's Faithful?
  • These are they who are willing to follow the lamb whithersoever he goes in harmony with the temple's lunisolar time system.

  • These are they who would be willing to keep all of Yahuwah's laws and statutes that incorporate His Holy feast days on His true restored calendar.

  • " These are they who would be the first to unlearn false theories of Vatican inspired day begins the following morning at sunrise. as He ordained at creation.

  • " These are they who would discern that the true lunar Sabbath had been removed from knowledge by the satanic implantation of an all inclusive counterfeit time system with unbroken cycling weeks.

  • These are they who recognize the First Visible Crescent is indeed the New Moon, which beacons the Creator's signs, seasons, days, and years, as it receives its light from the sun, thus working in divine orchestration.

  • These are they who recognize that the Creator's Lunar International Dateline (CLID) is beaconed only by the First Visible Crescent, fixing the location and start of each "new month," and demarcating the divisions of "days," in contrast to the man-made IDL.

  • These are they who, when they see the "light" are willing to walk in that "light" and teach others to do likewise in preparation for Yahuwah's grand and glorious second coming.

Since Adam and Eve were forced from the comfort of their garden home, the result of disobedience, Yahuwah, the Heavenly Father has lovingly continued to call forth His faithful out of spiritual "darkness" and into His marvelous "light" of truth. He will never stop calling until there is full restoration, a six thousand year process only to be complete at the second coming.

What will your choice be? Will you decide to align your life and time-centric rhythms with the Creator of the sun, moon and stars for His preordained and holy assemblies for worship or will you continue along the same wide and easy path as the world? This wide path is established by the Roman, yet Satanic inspired calendar and clock, linked to an arbitrary International Dateline, unmistakably designed to separate you from your Creator and Saviour, forever?

As new light is revealed, there is need for adjustment among lunar Sabbatarians as to what constitutes the true New Moon. It is our prayer, that only the will of our gracious Heavenly Father be done. May His "lights," the principles that rule in the heavens, be fully restored, that His people who are called by His name, may worship Him in one accord, in spirit and truth.

May you be abundantly blessed in all you do as you keep looking up
and seeking the Father of lights (James 1:17).
